Description | The Former Mechanics' Institute on Sagar Lane (also known as Kingdom Hall) was established in the late 19th century and is included on the Wakefield MDC Local Interest Buildings list (2011). Mechanics' Insitute, erected in Sagar Street in 1859. Served as the town's first bank and library. It consisted of a large assembly room, a classroom, and a billiard room and was used as council offices until 1918. A baby clinic occupied it until the 1960s, and most recently it served as the Jehovah's Witness Hall (Wilders, D. 1995: 35). |
