Title | Burnt Acres |
Description | This site was visited in 1999 as part of the Pennine Settlement Survey. The site represented a good survival of a farmhouse and barn with additional brick buildings. The farmhouse appeared to date from the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations and additions in the 18th and 19th centuries. Changes in the stone courses above the chamfered mullioned windows on the southwest elevation suggests that the roof of the farmhouse was lowered and the pitch altered in the 19th century. The farmhouse contains a two cell barrel vaulted cellar. Both barn and farmhouse are set into the hillside close to and with access from Duke Lane. The barn probably dates from the 18th to 1the 19th century with a through entrance in the northwest and southeast elevations. |
