Title | No. 97, Water Lane, Round Foundry |
Description | No. 97, Water Lane was a foundry workshop, now offices, built as a part of the Round Foundry on Foundry Street. It was built between 1857 77 of red/brown brick in English 5:1 bond with a Welsh slate roof on 1 storey. The street frontage has 7 bays and features multi pane round arched windows with curved edged brick surrounds and stone sills. At eaves level, there are nail head and chamfered brick decorative bands. On the left hand return there is an inserted round arched entrance. The rear, meanwhile, was rebuilt during the 20th century. An iron plaque recording the achievements of Matthew Murray (who built the foundry) was placed in a polished stone surround and was erected in 1929. This building is similar in character to the other foundry building at 103 Water Lane (PRN 9818) and was built on the site of the entrance gate on Camp Fields.
