Title | Castleford Gates Signal Box |
Description | The Castleford Gate Signal Box was built alongside the North Eastern Railway Station in Castleford and is currently disused. It dates to the late Victorian period and is built of brick with a slate roof. The facade facing the tracks is of 4 bays in the ground floor, with 4 tall boarded windows with segmental arches and projecting sills. At 1st floor, 2 windows provided a line of sight to the tracks from the signal room inside. 1 is of 4 lights and lies to the left of the elevation while the other is of 8 and also opens to the right hand return where 2 doors were placed on the ground and 1st floors. Access to the 1st floor was provided by an external staircase. This building is included in the Local Buildings List (2008) for Wakefield. |
