Description | Copper alloy medieval seal matrix with circular face and hexagonal faceted handle ending with trefoil loop, dating to 13th 14th century. The matrix has a central arms which are those of Woderous or Woderout and consist of a chevron between three crosses fitchee. The legend around the seal reads: *IEH[ ]VY WODEROVT. The Christian name is not clear but is possibly a variant of John or Joanna or even a phonetic spelling of something like ‘Evie’. And the surname Woderous or Woderout. No finders name given.
