Title | Barn occupied by R.A.D Motors, Aireworth Road |
Description | A barn, initialled and dated “S C J 1832”. Constructed of sandstone, with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof, the building is of 3 bays, and features a basket arched cart entry with chamfered ashlar voussoirs, and lunettes with keystone to either side. The building has subsequently functioned as a coach house to Aireworth House and as a garage (a large opening has been cut into the right half of the main elevation for a car workshop). The rear of the building is largely unaltered, and displays similar fenestration to that of the main front; it features a carved coat of arms and keystone, as well as having a mistal door at the left end. The building has a 5 bay queen post roof. (Text edited from WYAS, 1995) |
