TitleChurch of St Margaret, Ilkley
DescriptionThis is a stone built church, constructed in 1878 by the architect Richard Norman Shaw. Built on a steep slope, the east end of the building rises high above a crypt with monumental buttresses which creates an impressive effect. The building is built of ashlar stone in the perpendicular style, and has aisles with six windows, a broad nave of three wide bays and one shorter one, a low arch (with wooden screen) to the chancel (which has broad east window), and transepts with single high windows to both the north and south. The nave has an open beam wooden roof (arch braced) and a broad west window. At the west end is an octagonal carved stone font with a 5 sided carved wooden canopy depicting figures of angels. There is a porch at the south west corner and a carved double bellcote on the roof, over the chancel arch.
