Description | Formerly a house and 2 cottages (now all merged into one 4 cell linear property); the main house (far right) dates from the mid/late 17th century (with early 18th century porch), whilst the cottage in the middle dates from 1691, and the cottage on the far left was built in the early 18th century (but has 19th century alterations). The buildings are built of coursed millstone grit, have stone slate roofs, and are of 2 storeys. The main house has a baffle entry plan, and five 1st floor windows. Central gabled porch, with shaped kneelers and ashlar coping; has doorway in the left return with chamfered, quoined surround and ogee moulded lintel inscribed with 'PSH 1722' and scrolls. The inner doorway to house has a chamfered, quoined, surround and deep lintel. There are double chamfered mullion windows. Continuous drip mould; shaped kneelers and coping to right gable. Two corniced stacks, to ridge and right end. The central cottage is set back and has one 1st floor window. The doorway to the left has a quoined surround; the lintel inscribed 'AM AR PSH'. Double chamfered mullion windows – one of 6 lights with king 1691 mullion to right of door; and another of 9 lights with 2 king mullions above. End stack to left. Inside, there is a large fireplace with incised lintel the initials PSH, AM and AR stand for Peter and Sarah Heaton, Ann Midgely (Sarah's mother) and Ann Redman (Sarah's sister). The property came from the Midgely's to Sarah through her sister. Cottage to far left has two later 1st floor windows. Doorways to left and right have chamfered quoined surrounds and deep lintels (door on right now window). Between doors, on both floors is a 2 light flat faced mullion window with lintel and cill, and to the left on 1st floor is a 20th century window with stone lintel.
