Description | Large stone farmhouse, dated 1670; part converted to a chapel and Sunday school/meeting room in the mid 19th century. Built of dressed stone, with stone slate roofs, and of 2 storeys. The house faces south; this elevation shows no sign of a door but the windows have round headed light, and those on the ground floor have been lengthened in the 19th century. The entrance to the house is in the east gable wall, with added projection acting as a porch, which has a datestone (probably re set). The door lintel has two shallow round headed mouldings cut into it. Inside, the housebody has basket arched fireplaces with voussoirs, large chamfered beams and joists, and chamfered stone doorways. The rear of the house contained service quarters, with dairy, general storerooms and kitchen. In 1844 the house was extended to the west – this being raised to give a chapel at first floor level. At the east end, the house was also extended to the rear to provide a meeting room. |
