Description | Exchange Fold, Honley, are 2 early 18th century adjoining cottages constructed of millstone grit with 1:2 quoins and a pitched slate roof with stacks to ridge on both gable ends. The front elevation, facing into the fold, is of 4 bays. 2 flat faced mullioned windows with 4 lights and plain surrounds are placed in bays 1 and 4 on both the ground and 1st floors. A string course lies two courses above the bottom window and continues across the elevation. The windows flank two doorways at ground floor and large 2 pane sash windows set above (likely to be replacements). The doorways have double chamfered surrounds with a plain frieze and rounded edges set above the lintel, and is crowned by a moulded cornice. The gable ends, meanwhile, have coped corbelled kneelers. |
