Description | Gatehouse to sheltered council housing for the elderly, built c.1928. Constructed of snecked stonework with inserted red bricks and exposed oak beam. This is the housing’s central entrance, opening up into a quadrangular courtyard. It features an open entrance with beam over, supported by curved brackets on corbels. Decorative stepped ventilator oversailing eaves, mansard roof with yellow ridge tiles. Part of the Guard House Estate (the land was purchased from the Brigg family in 1927); in 1928 the Corporation built its first 136 house at Guard House (WYAS, 1994). |
