Title | Rothwell Fulfilling Lives Centre |
Description | An educational excavation was undertaken in the grounds of the Rothwell Fulfilling Lives Centre as part of a project run by Dave Weldrake of WYASS using archaeology to engage adults with learning difficulties. This involved the Workers Education Association and the Department of Life Long Learning, Leeds University, with groups from Rothwell, Moor End and West Ardsley. An 8.0m by 1.0m trench was excavated to an average depth of 0.30m. A 1.0m by 1.0m sondage was dug at the northern end of the trench generating the natural clay subsoil at a depth of 0.70m from the current ground level. The finds, which included pottery, clay pipe, glass and brick, were all modern (19th and 20th centuries). No traces of a structure were recovered and it seems likely that the artefacts were deposited during field manuring on agricultural land prior to the construction of the presnt Fulfilling Lives Centre. |
