Title | Sacred Heart RC Primary School |
Description | An educational excavation was undertaken at Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Hemsworth, in 2009. The excavation was run by Dave Weldrake of WYAAS in partnership with Wakefield Museums Service and also involved excavations at Grove Lea Primary School (PRN 9908), St Helen's CE (VA) JandI School (PRN 9910) and West End Junior and Infants School (PRN 9909). Approximately 200 school children took part. The project aimed to provide further evidence for the medieval period in Hemsworth. A trench, 1.0m by 8.0m, was opened revealing made ground below the topsoil. The finds included a glass marble, Victorian patterned window glass and a three penny piece dating to the 1st half of the 20th century. |
