Title | Water Gate |
Description | The site of 'Water Gate' farmstead was visited as part of the Pennine Settlement Survey in 1999. This site lies 50cm west from the head of Withen Clough Reservoir. It was probably the construction of the reservoir which led to the abandonment and substantial robbery of the site. The site is mostly and earthwork consisting of two platforms; one larger and to the southeast end of the site, the other to the northwest. A trough is situated between the two platforms. During the site visit in 1999 some gritston blocks were noted, but there were no datable architectural fragments. |
