Title | 1-40 (Consecutive), Haw Hill View, Local Authority Housing |
Description | Nos. 1 40, Haw Hill View are an example of early local authority housing built to the east of Haw Hill Park, facing the large green. The terraces were constructed in 1910 and are built of brick and tile, with slate roofs, distinguished by decoratively using white bricks and canopies over doors. Each house is of three bays with single windows at ground at the first floor in bays 1 and 3, both flanking a central doorway. A stack was placed off pitch above the window in the third bay. The terrace was visited by Lucy Caffyn in 1982 as part of the RCHME's Workers' Housing Survey. Copies of her photographs are on file at West Yorkshire HER. Nos. 6 and 38 have all been the subject of planning applications for external features, a front porch and a 2 storey extension respectively. The terraces are included in the Local Buildings List (2008) for Wakefield. |
