Description | This is the former site of Wapping Works, which was probably built in the 19th century. The perimeter wall survived in 1985, at the time of the initial field survey, showing the outline of large weaving sheds and a multi storey spinning mill (PastScape, 21/05/2008). The remains of a two storey warehouse also survived. According to an account of 1902 by the Yorkshire Woolcombers Association, Wapping Works was built to a double mill layout with a water tower in the centre (PastScape, 21/05/2008). Furthermore, an engine house, boiler house and chimney were also situated on the site. The works were probably used for wool combing. Modern Ordnance Survey maps of 2007 do not depict any remains of Wapping Works, however the site does seem to remain undeveloped. |
