Title15-17 Spring Gardens
DescriptionThere is no description of this building in the folder. Photographs were taken of the street in 1988, which included the former Synagogue (No.s 15 17) and surrounding terraced housing. No.s 19 21 Spring Gardens are Listed (PRN 8568), as is No. 23 (PRN 8569), but No.s 15 17 are not. No.s 15 17 do not seem to appear on the 1st edition OS map of 1850 or the OS map of 1891, even though the surrounding terraced housing does. They do appear in the OS map of 1906, and so were likely to have been built between 1891 and 1906.
From the photographs, the building appears to be three stories high and built of stone with a hipped stone slate roof. The main entrance is to the left hand side of the building at mezzanine level, with steps leading up to it. The main door has an semi circular arch above and flanking columns, which are all set within a shallow gabled porch. Above the doorway are three single light windows with trefoil decoration above. Above these is a cupola. On the ground floor to the right hand side is a garage doorway. To the left is a single light window, followed by three two light mullioned windows, all with lintels. At first floor level are five sets of two single light windows that each have quoins and lintels. On the second floor there are five three light windows with quoins, lintels with trefoil decoration, and small columns separating the lights.
