TitleMeanwood School and School Master's House
DescriptionThis school and master’s house was built in 1840 for Christopher Beckett Esq of Meanwood Hall. It was built in Gothic Revival style from ashlar, with slate roofs and ashlar coped gables. It has a plinth and decorated corbels. The south front has a central single storey five bay block, with five deeply recessed pointed arch windows with tracery and hoodmoulds. There is a quadrangle to the rear, with an octagonal bell tower and plaque.
The master’s house is of three bays, and is two storeys high with a chamfered first floor band. The central doorway has a projecting porch and pointed arch door. Either side are single glazed bar sashes in chamfered surrounds with Tudor hoodmoulds. Above, there are three gabled through eaves dormer windows with glazing bar sashes and a stone slate roof.
(Text edited from English Heritage LBO description).
At the time of the English Heritage survey in 1989, the building was in the midst of restoration and extension. There was also a planning application made in 2002 for alterations and a single storey extension to the school. In the folder, there are also plan and section drawings from 2005, which suggests that there may have been further work carried out at the site since then.
