TitleGateway and boundary wall southwest of Chapel Allerton Hospital
DescriptionThis gateway and boundary wall was built c.1835, probably by John Clark for John Hives. They are built of ashlar and coursed squared gritstone and have wrought iron double gates. These gates have spearhead finials and circular motifs. The piers form the flanking pedestrian archways with niches and pedimented caps, and a frieze with paterae. The wall to the north is approximately 160m long and 2m high, extending to the stables gateway with monolithic tapering piers that have flat segmental faced capstones. This was built as a boundary wall to Gledhow Grove, which later became a hospital (PRN 8741).
