Description | This building was formerly known as Woodside Wesleyan Chapel and was built in 1811 by Samuel Prince. It was then sold to George Barber in 1883, who added the mock Tudor timber framed end bay and converted the chapel to a laundry. This closed c.1973, and then became a glass shop with related manufacturing and offices (Acorn Glass Merchants). In 2002, a planning application was being proposed that required the removal of the mock Tudor addition and the conversion of the building in to residential apartments; however, it is not known whether this application was approved or whether the conversion went ahead. At the time the building was Listed (English Heritage, 1996), it was built of coursed squared gritstone, and had a concrete tile roof, although this probably replaced an original slate roof. It is a single storey building that is five windows wide. There is a central board door to the chapel entrance with a round arched window and a date plaque ‘AD 1811’ above. |
