TitleWatching Brief, Call Lane, Leeds
DescriptionAn archaeological watching brief was carried out by On Site Archaeology in 2006 at Call Lane in Leeds, during geo technical work prior to development of the site. The geo technical work was intended to establish the extent and depth of 20th century basements across the site, which was bounded by Nos. 38 42 Call Lane to the north, Revolution Bar to the south, commercial properties to the west and Call Lane to the east. The watching brief was carried out in order to monitor these works, and to record any other archaeological remains that may be disturbed. In particular, due to the site’s location in the historic core of Leeds, there was potential for medieval and post medieval remains to be recovered.
The cellars were found to extend across the full length of the investigated site, at a depth of 2.5m below ground level. It is therefore assumed that any archaeology would have been destroyed with the construction of the cellars in the 20th century. There were no other archaeological remains identified.
