TitleWatching brief at Hetchell Court
DescriptionAn archaeological watching brief was carried out by Archaeoscope at Hetchell Court, at the back of houses fronting Wood Lane in Bardsey, during April and May 2006. It was carried out on behalf of Park Lane Homes, prior to redevelopment of the site. Although there was evidence to suggest that the site had once been utilised by the tanning industry in the past (it is depicted as the field name 'Tan House Close' on an 1815 estae map), no significant archaeological features or finds were discovered in the duration of the watching brief. The only artefacts that were encountered comprised part of a clay pipe stem and a fragment of Willow Pattern pottery dating to the post medieval period, which were both discarded on site owing to their lack of antiquity. Due to the lack of artefactual evidence found at the site, it is thought that it must have remained undeveloped until its use as a domestic garden.
