Description | These houses do not seem to appear on the WYAAS GIS (02/04/2008) and therefore it is assumed that they have been demolished. The stretch of road where it is assumed that they once stood seems to have been redeveloped (superstore, car park and clinic). No.s 437 441 were three cottages built c.1830. They were built of stone blocks, which were thin and varied in width, with stone roofs. The doors and windows had thin stone surrounds. The stone chimney stacks are tall. The cottages originally had only one heated room, but a range a the back added another heated room to each. No.s 427 435 were built slightly later, c.1850, though were much the same, being built from stone blocks, with stone roofs, and doors and windows with thin stone surrounds. The cottages were two rooms deep. Number 427 was converted to a shop. Note: LC (1982) refers to 'Rooley Road', however the grid reference that she gives corresponds with Rooley Lane and there does not seem to be a Rooley Road in the area. It is therefore assumed that LC meant 'Rooley Lane'? |
