Title | Watching brief at Frieston Hospital |
Description | A watching brief was undertaken by Archaeological Services WYAS in June 2005 during the excavation of foundation trenches for a double garage adjacent to the former Frieston Hospital, which was built in 1595. The site was centred on the grid reference above. During the excavation of the trenches, the remains of a stone built structure were located. From documentary evidence, it seems likely that these remains belonged to the former laundress’s cottage at the hospital, which was rebuilt in the 18th century and then demolished in the early 20th century. However, no further finds were located at the site and so the date or function of the former building could not be confirmed. See the report for more details. |
