Description | This large house, which is now two separate dwellings (English Heritage, 1966), is dated 1707, with alterations dated as 1839. The house is built of thin coursed hammer dressed stone, with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with quoins and a plinth. It has a three room plan, and is double depth with direct entry into the third cell. The first and second cells have inserted doors that have been initialled and dated ‘DP 1839’. There is also a matching original doorway with a square surround, which is decorated with roll moulding running around the lintel and framing a panel reading ‘IR 1707’. The main feature to the rear of the house is two doorways with shaped lintels of 17th century character, which have possible been reused. (Text edited from English Heritage LBO description) |
