TitleRoman Brooch
DescriptionSmall copper alloy Roman tubular headed knee brooch dating to the 2nd century AD. The head of the brooch has short tubular wings within which the spring pin mechanism is contained; this is attached around a rivet running through the centre of the tube. Part of the spring survives but the pin does not. The bow of the brooch is a pronounced curve with a raised central ridge running down the front. The bow flares slightly to form the foot and there is a small sub rectangular catch plate on the back of this. Discovered by a metal detectorist before 09/05/2005.
Length 28.7mm in, Width 10.64mm, Thickness 12.5mm from front to back of the bow. weight 3.38g
