Description | This woollen textile mill was built c.1865, and was probably designed by Milnes and France for Sir Henry Ripley. It was built from thin coursed hammer dressed stone with ashlar dressings and slate roofs. It was four storeys tall with an attic. It had six by thirteen windows, continuous sill bands, moulded eaves and coped gables with kneelers. This mill was built by Sir Henry Ripley as part of a large scale development of tenanted mills on this site, formerly known as Springfield Mills, and part of the larger Bowling complex. This building was listed in 1994 because it was built of a rare and unusual form of construction, with wrought iron floor beams and laminated wooden roof trusses. |
