TitleBarn approximately 30m south of Wadland's Farmhouse
DescriptionThis large aisled barn was thought to date from the second half of the 15th century. Its timber frame was probably clad in stone at the same time that Wadland’s Farmhouse (PRN 8672) was built, which was in the early 18th century. A planning application for the demolition of this Grade II* building was put forward in 1986, and the building was subsequently demolished in 1987, regardless of the fact that planning permission was not granted. It was later hoped that it would be possible to salvage any remaining structural fabric of the barn left on site, and perhaps consider reconstruction, although it is not known how successful this was.
This barn was of particular interest due to its previous association with a manorial complex. It had a fine interior, and being an early aisled barn in this region it was a rare and important survival (English Heritage, 1987; Thornborrow, 1986).
