TitleChurch House
DescriptionThis pair of semi detached houses were built in the mid 18th century, with a rear service block added c.1800. The building has well coursed dressed stone to the front, with harrier dressed stone to the sides and rear, and a stone slate roof. It is of three storeys with attics, is double depth on plan, and has a six bay symmetrical façade. It appears to have been built as a pair of semi detached dwellings, as there is no sign of an earlier central entry and there is thought to be a thick wall dividing the two houses (Giles, 1981).
This is a house of fine stone detail prominently sited next to the Church of St Wilfrid (PRN 884), and it is unusual in being an early example of semi detached housing (English Heritage, 1966).
