Title | Grave slab to James Thompson at Church of St. Wilfrid |
Description | This grave slab is a memorial to ‘James Thompson of Bolton’, who died 17th December 1708 aged 57. It is built from ashlar and has a finely carved decorative surround with an arched head, skull keystone, and hour glasses in the imposts. There are winged headed angels to the spandrels. It is set next to the southwest angle buttress of the Church. The grave slab is part of an interesting group of similarly decorated grave slabs in various other local graveyards, in particular in the graveyard of the Church of St Mary in the Wood, Morley.
