Description | This late 18th century small mansion has now been converted into a hotel (English Heritage, 1949). It is approximately square on plan and is two storeys high with an attic. It is built of golden sandstone ashlar, and has a hipped roof behind a parapet. It has a five bay symmetrical façade, with the centre three bays projecting slightly beneath a modillioned pediment. The central doorway has a fanlight, and is flanked by Tuscan columns that support a triangular pediment above. The windows are 15 paned sashed windows with glazing bars, with five to the main east front, and five to the south front. The north front has a Venetian arched window that lights the staircase. There is also a narrower two storey extension to the west. The outbuildings (PRNs 8651 and 8652) are of the same date as the house. |
