Description | This is a stone house that is dated 1675, but is largely later in detail. The house is of two storeys and faced south originally. The south front has lost its original detail, although there are fragments of mullioned windows visible and the remains of a blocked door. The 17th century house was probably of three cells in a line, with the main door opening into the central room. In the 18th century, the house was extended by the addition to the west of another service room with an outshut to the north. In the 19th century the house was turned around to face north, on to the main street of the village. The features of this front are all modern, apart from the date stone, which reads: ‘F R A 1675’. This is possibly taken from the south front of the original house and re used on the new entrance front. |
