TitlePre-Conquest cross fragment at St Oswald's Church
DescriptionOne of seven Pre Conquest cross fragments found at St Oswald's Church, Collingham. The cross fragments are still in the church.
This is a fragment of cross shaft, the top of which has been later re shaped when it was joined with PRN 7267 and fixed on top of the Runic Shaft (PRN 7266).
One face of this fragment bears an interesting pattern which is similar to plants on a trellis. Collingwood (1914) dates this pattern to the late 9th Century and dates the shaft as being no earlier than the first half of the 10th century. The work is finely hacked between chiselled lines.
