TitlePre-Conquest cross fragment at St Oswald's Church
DescriptionOne of seven fragments of Pre Conquest cross found at St Oswald's Church, Collingham. The cross fragments are still in the church.
This fragment is a cross arm, which shows signs of more recent modification. The fragment has been re shaped at one end, this matches up with the re shaping of the top of another fragment (PRN 7268) as the two fragments were at one time joined together and fixed on top of the Runic Shaft (PRN 7266).
The form of this cross head is almost penannular and is shaped with a chisel although the pattern is hacked. Collingwood (1914) has dated the ring in the plait on one side of this fragment to the early 10th Century.
