TitleFishpond Plantation, Cookridge
DescriptionFishpond located within fishpond plantation, Cookridge, Leeds. The comparitevely large fishpond lies in a plot of land northeast of Cookridge Hall. Additional water features to the south of the pond are most likely ponds associated with the golf course. 'fish pond planting' is mentioned in 1850 tithe award. A singular pond of this type may as Dennison (1987, p.7) suggests represent the earliest type of fish pond constructed. An earthwork (perhaps a dam) is evident along the north side of the pond and an overflow on the eastern side draws water along a channel in a northerly direction.
The main body of the nearby Cookridge Hall dates to 1754/5 but retains a 17th century rear range at basement level and a 1748 kitchen (DoE, 1951)
