TitleWatching Brief, Blayds Court, Swinegate, Leeds
DescriptionA watching brief was carried out by WYAS between 7th and 9th September 1998 during ground works prior to construction at Blayds Court, Swinegate, Leeds
The watching brief encompassed all ground work related to the new construction, the main work involved reducing the ground surface. The area of investigation was roughly 40m by 40m.
The watching brief revealed successive layers of debris, demolition and brick built foundation trenches overlaying a probable 17th century ditch cut into river gravels. The exposed section of the ditch was 4m long and 2.30m wide running east west, parallel to surviving brick buildings to the east. A 19th century furnace and coke burner were also observed which were probably associated with the brass foundry which once stood on the site (grid references for these features are not given, but a location plan can be found in the report see file)
