TitleEarthwork Survey at Grims Ditch, Colton
DescriptionAn earthwork survey was undertaken to determine the exact location of the extents of the Scheduled Ancient Monument known as Grim's Ditch within a proposed development area.
The survey was undertaken between 8th and 9th August 2000 and carried out using a Geodimeter 600 series total station to map the break of slope at the eastern limit of the ditch and the bottom of the bank at the western monument edge. Transects across the ditch and bank were taken in three places to provide illustrative profiles.
A traverse network of temporary stations was established around the northern element of the earthwork monument that lay within the development area. These were tied into the Ordnance Survey benchmark located at 20 Austhorpe Grove, Colton.
The profiles are illustrated in the report but the exact dimesnsions of these profiles are unclear.
