TitleGeophysical Survey at proposed Moss Carr Opencast Extension
DescriptionA geophysical survey was carried out by WYAS at the site of the proposed Moss Carr Opencast Extension, Methley between 4 10 December 2001. The site area covered 17 hectares, but only 11.5 hectares were available for survey due to the presence of a brassica crop at the southern end of the site. A 40% sample of the available area (4.6 hectares) was surveyed using a Geoscan FM36 fluxgate gradiometer. Readings were taken at 0.5m intervals on zig zag traverses 1m apart within 20m by 20m square grids.
No anomalies of a probable archaeological origin were identified during the survey that correspond with the archaeological ditches interpreted from a previous aerial photograph assessment. There may be archaeological features present that produce a weak or un measurable magnetic anomoly due to the geological conditions.
