TitlePre Conquest Cross Fragment, St Peter's Church, Leeds
DescriptionThis cross has been re constructed from three fragments of Pre Conquest carved stone, the fragments were found in Leeds Parish Church.. Like the 'Great Cross' (PRN 7285) it illustrates the legend of Volund. Three of the faces shows knots and plaits, one of which ends in a serpent's head.
On the remaining face there is a figure holding a book. At the foot of the shaft is Volund again, it is almost identical to the illustration on the 'Great Cross' but with a little less detail.
It probably dates to early mid 10th Century.
