Title | Old Mineral Tramway, Whitehall Road |
Description | Remains of old mineral tramway off Whitehall Road, Scholes, Cleckheaton, visible as an earthwork. The construction date of the tramway is uncertain; the tramline is not visible on the 1st Edition OS map (map sheet 231), published 1850, however it is present on the 2nd Edition map (map sheet 231 NE) which was published in 1891 – thus suggesting a mid/late 19th century date. This would have been a branch line and would have served a number of local collieries and pits including Drake Pit (SE 157 262), Westfield Pit (SE 158 265), Scholes Pit (SE 167 263), Whitehall Colliery (SE 171 264) and Chairbarrow Colliery (SE 172 259). |
