Title | Low Fold Mills/Albion Foundry |
Description | Albion Foundry and Low Fold Mills. Site of tannery established in the late 18th century by James and Peter Rhodes. Site cleared 1995 (Gomersall, 1995). The 1st Edition OS map (surveyed 1847) shows Low Fold Mill as a flax miil, while a copy of an illustrated letterhead from 1906 shows that by this time Low Fold Mills was functioning as a Shoddy Mill. The mill was included in the RCHME Yorkshire Textile Mills Survey bu C. Giles and I. Goodhall, published 1986 and is recorded in the gazetteer as a 'B' mill; this means that the RCHME produced a brief record relating to the mill, usually comprising of an initial survey form and possibly photographs. None of this archive material is held at West Yorkshire HER however. |
