Title | Healthwaite |
Description | Healthwaite first mentioned mid 12th. century (EPNS IV, p.51). Grant of land in 'Helthweyt' to archbishop of York in 1246 'on which shall be founded a parish church (sic) and the manse of the said church shall be built'. Healthaite referred to as a vill in same fine, and was in Harewood parish. Unlikely this church was ever built, but if so, site to be identified. Healthwaite today comprises one building complex (Healthwaite Hall) with ridge and furrow and possibly other earthworks visible on APs to north and west. Crowther (1980) notes re used sculptured window lintels in th emain external wall at Healthwaite Hall and in other buildings in the area (from Rougemont? ), but these observations require checking. (Transferred to N.Yorks 1993) Other old antiq. nos in SMR: 44249752 and 44249752. |
