TitleBentley Allotment
DescriptionAPs show Bentley Allotment, an area of unenclosed moorland, c. 700 x 400 m, which has been drained with a rectilinear arrangement of ditches; no other drainage scheme quite like this has been seen and its purpose is unknown. The giving of a name to the area suggests some very specific purpose; the land however seems still to be rough, uncultivated ground. Just to the north east, centred on SE 027 327, is another small area, partly enclosed, again with two or three marked drains, but in this case with traces of possible narrow ridge and furrow. A building ('Nab Water' sic) is marked on the modern O.S. in association with this last area. Purpose of the above unknown; should be pursued as a low priority matter in order to understand the total landscape use in the past in this area.
