Title | Walshaw |
Description | One of only four definite 'walh' names in W.Yorks, supported by existence of a medieal 'e' in medieval spellings. Possible British settlement; the site is documented as a settlement by the late thirteenth century and continues as a farm and at least two other habitations today. Site visit needed to inspect buildings (see also buildings officer) and to establish presence/ absence of any other remains (earthworks?) of archaeological concern in the general vicinity. Any such remains so identified would assume a high priority in view of the possuble Dark Age connections. |
