Description | School, built in 1814 by the Low Moor Iron Works Company. Of one storey and constructed of sandstone ‘brick’, with a stone slate, low pitched gable end roof and coped ends. Single hall school of plain design. Four tall pointed arched windows to each side in ashlar surroundings. Lower south wing with three pointed arched windows. Set in the south gable end is an oval ashlar plaque with an elegantly cut inscription: ‘erected by the Low Moor Company, Anno Domini 1814’ (Text edited from English Heritage’s National Heritage List, 1983) |
