TitleNew Park
DescriptionNew Park. Site of one of the demesne parks of the earls Warenne. Deer park (over 300 deer in the park in the mid 16th c.); probably also site of charcoal burning, iron ore extraction and iron smelting, although none of these activities can now be reliably located on the ground. Boundary fences said by Walker to have been six miles in circuit; place name evidence certainly implies presence of actual park pale. Park contained two lodges possible sites: Upper Park (SE 2750 2250); Lower Park (SE 283 236); Lodge Hill Farm (SE 285 218); the present club house of the Low Laithes Golf Course (SE 2960 2159), which in fact incorporates the remains of a 16th c. structure.
