TitleHospital of St Mary Magdelene, Pontefract
DescriptionHospital of St Mary Magdelene, probably Augustine. In existence by 1286. Founded as a lazar house. Referred to as juxta Pontefract, implying that it was just outside the town. Original lication unknown, but suggested in VCH that it may have occupied the site of Frank's Hospital, a later charity of the town, founded by Matthew (1654) and Robert (1737) Franks to house four poor widows. The Franks Hospital was located at SE 4597 2212, but was demolished 1963 5; there is now a commercial garage on the site.
