TitleThree Quernstones
DescriptionThree quernstones, comprising two top stones and a bottom stone of `beehive' form and thus likely to be Iron Age in date. The quernstones were ploughed up in a well cultivated field at cited grid ref. (8 fig ref. apparently not supplied to SMR, though piece of 6'' OS map was sent to finder to enable him to provide a more accurate find spot) by Mr. Metcalfe, who retained them. WYAS was notified of this find by Don Spratt (in charge of Yorkshire Quern project). SMR believes Tony Sumpter visited the site of the find, but no record from him in HER. The finding of the querns came too late to enable WYAS to reply positively to Persimmon Homes for a watching brief on a proposed housing development site. Site now covered by modern housing.
