TitleIron Age/Romano-British Enclosure, Moss Carr
DescriptionLinear cropmarks at SE 365260 are of uncertain origin and may not be ancient. Other linear marks just to the north at SE 365263 are also enigmatic but their character and proximity to other good archaeological features suggests that they should be evaluated further if threatened. The existing field boundary running south from Moss Carr Wood (beginning at SE 367264 is on a large lynchet of uncertain date; this could be medieval or later as this general area was ploughed in the Middle Ages (but may be earlier). Note on WY 145/25 a short length of a broad diffuse cropmark running from the corner of the wood towards this lynchet; origin and date uncertain; may not be archaeological but needs evaluating and if archaeological, its relationship to the lynchet should be established. Note also the proximity of a large circular enclosure (PRN 4199) just to the north west. 1994: Any archaeology in the area east of Moss Carr Farm may now be regarded as a part of the more extensive group of archaeological features to the west, north and northeast of the farm PRN 4514. The most pronounced of the linear features is probably the cropmark cited in PRN 3516 as evidence for Roman Road 712.

This feature was excavated in 2001 by Archaeological Services WYAS (ASWYAS) and confirmed to be a Iron Age/Romano British enclosure for full details see PRN 1584
