Description | Catstones Hill is site of various finds of Mesolithic flint; much traversed by collectors and record in SMR may not represent total number of flints found. CBA Card Index reports two sites 1). bare patch on the hillside near a path at 1400 ft. O.D., which produced 1 microlithic core, unretouched flakes and blades, 5 microliths and waster flint and chert material. 2). On NW edge of hill at 1400 ft. O.D., produced unretouched flakes and blades, microliths and various waste flint and chert. Among collectors of this material are E.Darby, J.H.Priestley, J.Turner and G.Taylor. Some of flint is held by Tolson Museum, Huddersfield (acc. no. 34.16.64). No further information. N.B. find of Neolithic stone axe on Catstones Hill (PRN 2139). |
